Romanian glassmaker Alexandra Muresan creates sculptural pieces, in which recycled glass is fused with materials such as metal. Her powerful work, exploring fragility, grace and violence, pushes the limits of what is conventionally beautiful. Her first degree was in Philosophy from the Babes-Bolyai University in her hometown Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She went on to obtain a diploma, MA and then PhD in Design. Her academic studies have had a huge impact on her creative process. Today, she is a glass artist and lecturer in the Ceramic and Glass Department of the University of Art and Design, Cluj-Napoca. In 2013, she was awarded the Jutta-Cuny Franz Memorial Award for glass. Her pieces have been exhibited in several shows internationally, including Bucharest, Berlin and Rome.
