Drop "Edge" Vessel

The handmade vessel was turned from wet sycamore wood. Once dried, it was ebonised, and the “edge” detail was hand-carved into its surface. Max Brosi ebonises the surfaces of his vessels to remove the distraction of the colour of the wood and to enhance the effect of light and shadow on the carved surface.

The vessel is part of Max Brosi’s Edge series resulting from his observation of the forms and textures found along the coast of north-west Ireland, where he grew up. The carved “edge” detail and the texture of the surface are reminiscent of ripples on the surface of the sea.
