The vessel is handcrafted from the banksia nut, a seedpod of the banksia wild flower native to Australia. In his Banksia series, Darren embraces the beautiful embrittled texture and the organic shape of these “nuts”. The sculpture is created in three different layers: crispy texture, velvet felt-like texture, and finally a layer of wood texture. The vessel series was inspired by the rawness of textures found in Ghanaian art and nature.
