Pattern of Crafts

This tapestry-like art piece PALLADIO is handcrafted using mohair threads on a cotton warp base on a tapestry loom. Signe used her signature looping technique, which consists of ongoing rows of loops with six thin mohair threads, woven together with wool in a classic rug construction. The thin yarns allowed the artisan to make a subtle colour gradient, inspired by the interior of the Basilica of San Giorgio and the light and water around Venice. The textile artwork is hung on an ash wood bar.

Exhibition curator Sebastian Herkner took the geometric pattern of the terrace of the Basilica of San Giorgio, on San Giorgio Maggiore island, and invited selected master artisans to interpret this lace-like octagonal pattern in a graphic artwork.
