Novotný Glass was founded by Petr Novotný who trained as a glassblower in the 1960s and worked at the state glassworks Crystalex in the North Bohemia, an area associated with glass since the Middle Ages. He worked hard to gradually become one of the country's best glassmakers. During the regime, Petr built a glass furnace in his family house.
In 2007 he opened a unique centre with a restaurant and a glass museum. Today the glassworks collaborate with archaelogists to make replicas of historical glass pieces. Besides the replicas and Petr's own or his son Ondřej's glass designs, they also make private commissions. Novotný Glass frequently works with national and international designers to produce art pieces or smaller series of functional glass objects.
