Michael Thonet's life's work impressively reflects the transition from craftsmanship to industrial mass production in the 19th century. His groundbreaking innovation of bending solid wood with the help of steam continues to shape modern furniture production. His revolutionary ideas, techniques and designs are showcased at the Thonet Museum, which is located at the company’s headquarters in Frankenberg. The historical location invites visitors to experience an important part of furniture history up close.

Early bentwood furniture, Art Nouveau furniture, but also tubular steel furniture from the Bauhaus period as well as from the post-war period can be discovered at the museum. The museum owes its existence to Georg Thonet's passion for collecting: as the great-grandson of the company's founder Michael Thonet, he collected a rich treasure trove of historical exhibits and made them accessible to a broad public by opening the museum in 1989, exactly 100 years after the Thonet manufacturer was founded in Frankenberg.
