The Corks Arts Society, trading as the Lavit Gallery, was set up in 1963 to promote the arts in the city of Cork. Based on the ground floor of a four-storey restored warehouse, the building was originally built as a grain store in 1845. Now the gallery supports artists through an annual exhibition programme, showcasing the work of Cork-based artists alongside work by leading Irish and international names. The gallery also supports the annual Cork Craft Month every August with a dedicated exhibition. Through their ambitious program, the Lavit Gallery promotes both emerging and established artists, in addition to stimulate and challenge Cork audiences.
