Contemporary Czech design

In 2002, the designer Jakub Berdych Karpelis opened the first design gallery in the Czech Republic, Prague. Shortly after, he teamed up with Maxim Velčovský to establish the successful Qubus Design Studio, that is part of the gallery. Many significant objects, collections and works have emerged under the brand. Qubus aims to present Czech conceptual design, and also to comment on the world from the, slightly sarcastic, Central European point of view. In the gallery, the designers are also the salesmen, and the customers are treated informally, invited for a cup of coffee while looking at the works of the founders and other acclaimed designers such as Milan Pekař and Antonín Tomášek.
