Celebrating Judaism through the ages

The Museum of Jewish Culture became a separate specialised museum to the Slovak National Museum (SNM) in 1994. The original building of the Zsigray's Manor House is one of the few that witnessed and survived the socialist demolition of Bratislava's Jewish architectural monuments. The museum is guided by the purpose to uphold the wisdom of Judaism that spans the ages. It preserves and presents the distinguished cultural and artistic history of Jewish minority living in the territory of today's Slovakia.

The rich permanent collection prides itself on more than 7,000 objects. One of the museum's prized possessions consists of Jewish ceremonial art pieces. Displayed contextually, they serve as a testament to inventive design and ornamentation and offer a unique insight into Jewish artistic style and visual traditions. Visitors can brush up on rituals celebrating Jewish holidays or on the significant life events of a practising member of the Jewish community, enhanced by various educational activities.
