The Unique Regional Museum of Sardinian Textile Art (MURATS) is located in Samugheo in the province of Oristano, and it was founded with the specific mission of recovering and preserving the Sardinian historical textile tradition. The museum, housed in a new building on two floors, is located in the outskirts of the village, renowned for its flourishing textile production. Inside the museum there are both temporary exhibitions with projects dedicated to the Sardinian handicraft sector and the permanent exhibition.
The permanent collection is composed of a corpus of artefacts from different parts of the island. You can find here blankets, sheets, daily linen, haversack and canvas for the countryside, shepherd’s clothing; traditional costumes and tools, everyday and festive garments; precious 18th century textile products, handcrafted in wool, cotton and linen. Among its services, the museum also offers a series of thematic workshops for schools.
