Built on the grounds of two historic Zsolnay porcelain factories, the vibrant Zsolnay Cultural Quarter was completed in 2011 as part of the city-wide regeneration following Pecs’ appointment as a European Capital of Culture in 2010. Spread across five hectares and covering 40,000 square metres, it is the largest cultural centre in Hungary, featuring many prominent points of interest from the renovated Pecs Mausoleum to a Planetarium, and several galleries.

The most notable exhibition is the Golden Age of Zsolnay – Gyugyi Collection, which was the first to be hosted at the venue. Compromising of over 600 unique pieces of Zsolnay porcelain, these items belonged to the private collection of Dr. László Gyugyi, who lived in America; they were returned to Pecs in 2009. The pieces date from 1870 to 1910 and represent three significant historical periods in Hungary: historicism, millennium, and secession.
