In 1990 a group of visionary Danish artisans dreamt of a museum dedicated entirely to clay. In 1994, in the historic setting of a nearby dower mansion, a museum saw the light of day. Fast forward 30 years and CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art Denmark houses the largest, most impressive collection of Danish ceramics. From faience to stoneware and porcelain; finals to trials and one-of-a-kinds, ongoing exhibitions showcase the past and present play with the ever changing, living material that is clay.

Treasury tells the story of 235 years of Danish design in the form of private collections and archival pieces from Danish porcelain’s first lady, Royal Copenhagen. In 2008 the museum welcomed an architectural extension; a modern ceramic panel and glass pavilion forming the tip of the iceberg of an underground exhibition space. Here, as well as in the surrounding sculpture park, visitors can follow the journey of Danish ceramics as it travels through time, space and the hands of devoted craftsmen.
