Created in 1835, the Art & History Museum is located in the heart of Brussels in the Cinquantenaire Park. The Art & History Museum is Belgium’s largest museum institution. Its permanent collections of decorative arts relate to Prehistory, Antiquity and all periods of European history, from the Gallo-Roman period to the twentieth century (Art Nouveau). Non-European civilizations are also represented such as pre-Columbian America, Asia, Oceania, and the Islamic world.
From prehistoric jewellery from the Stone Age, examples of Merovingian glasswork to Greek vases and Gothic sculpture, there is a vast array of pieces to discover. All the objects on display are handmade masterpieces, with a unique story to tell. Be guided through an itinerary discovering the fine craftsmanship of past eras. The museum also houses a library, a photographic library and a shop, as well as a plaster-cast workshop and hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures and other activities.
