A glance into the life of a Venetian nobleman
Recently reorganised, the museum display takes you through 20 rooms on the first floor: the space evokes the life and activities of a Venetian nobleman between the 17th and 18th century. The new layout was designed by celebrated set designer Pier Luigi Pizzi, while furnishings and paintings were integrated with many pieces shown for the first time. Several mannequins wearing valuable ancient garments are exhibited to illustrate the expertise of craftsmen and the luxurious elegance for which Venetians were famous. A new rich section has been dedicated to perfume, a particular aspect of the Venetian tradition.

CostumeWearing culture at Palazzo Mocenigo, the museum of eleganceThe Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo, Study Centre of the History of Textiles, Costumes and Perfume, is housed in the former aristocratic residence of the noble Venetian Mocenigo family. It first opened to the public in 1985, displaying the collections of ancient fabrics and garments belonging to the Venice Civic Museums. Completely renewed and expanded at the end of 2013 with the help of Pier Luigi Pizzi, the new permanent exhibition composes 20 rooms displaying the trends in fashion, costume and fabrics of the 18th century. The exhibits include mannequins wearing period clothes and accessories, elegant decorations, fabrics and embroideries, as well as original furniture and paintings. Five rooms are dedicated to the rich Venetian history of perfumery, with a multimedia experience taking visitors on a journey through the olfactory senses. One room evokes the lab of a 16th century perfumer, another explores raw materials and processes, while a third houses an extraordinary collection of perfume bottles from the German fragrance company Drom.
