Visit the Vergombello goldsmithing workshop

A visit the Vergombello workshop, only a few steps from St Mark’s Square, is like stepping into a treasure trove of secrets and sparkles. Here you will meet the Master artisans Marta and Guido, who will guide you through the most refined Venetian goldsmithing art. In their workshop, they design and handmake sophisticated unique pieces of fine jewellery, using ancient knowledge and tools, together with some innovative techniques. With passion and a deep attention too every detail, they create rings, brooches, necklaces, earrings and the very famous “moretti”, a traditional Venetian production: tiny sculptures in ebony, gold and precious stones, activated by hidden mechanisms.

Jewellery making

The true legacy of the Venetian goldsmithingSince 1932, the streets of Venice have been glittering with the diamond, pearl and gold jewellery made at the Vergombello workshop. The art of Venetian goldsmithing has been preserved for three generations by Guido (the founder), Roberto and Marta Vergombello. Roberto and Marta, father and daughter, now work together, in "a small workshop, not easy to find but hard to forget" a few steps from St Mark’s Square. Here they create the most sophisticated and customised jewels for international clients and are particularly well-known for their celebrated “moretti” (small moors), brooches and rings sculpted in ebony and dressed in gold and diamonds: each a unique piece, totally handmade, realised using the lost wax casting technique, often hiding a minute secret activated by an invisible mechanism. In this extraordinary workshop, you can see every step of the journey of a piece of fine jewellery: from melting the gold to polishing.
