Reinterpreting Venetian glass beads in cosmopolitan jewelsSince the 1980s, the Attombri brothers, Stefano and Daniele, have worked to reinterpret the use of glass beads as a material to create ornaments, jewellery, lamps, chandeliers and decorative pieces for interior design. Their research moved between old and new, applied to arts and fashion, merging Venetian tradition and innovation. Together, in a very imaginative way, they have unlocked this traditional craft into something that sits technically and aesthetically in the contemporary world. They keep alive the Venetian tradition of the so-called “perlere” (or beads makers), enhancing such an ancient knowledge with brand new techniques. Inspired from many different sources, they combine Venetian antiquities with ethnic patterns, mythology and avant-garde allusions, while intertwining materials such as silver, copper, ancient Murano beads and glass. As a results, they create timeless sculpture-jewels as a tribute to a contemporary and cosmopolitan woman – far away from modern stereotypes.
