2 hours 1 person50 euros per personSourdough pottery (Obvara ceramics, sometimes known as Baltic raku) is one of the oldest and most interesting ceramic techniques. The technique has been used in the Baltic states since the 10th century. It involves dipping hot pottery, heated up to 1000°C, in sourdough starter to create impressive ornaments. The firing makes the pottery impermeable, which makes it suitable for food. Under the guidance of experienced ceramicist Beatriče Kelerienė, in this workshop, you will be able to mould your desired dish with your own hands. You will learn how to shape a cup, bowl or plate. The dish is then fired in a wood-burning kiln, and then dipped in sourdough starter. You can watch this fascinating process or take part in it yourself. This ancient decorating technique will transport you back in time to a 1000 year old past.
