Master Class in slow-built vessels with Gunilla Maria Åkesson

The meditative power of ceramics

6 hours Min 5 people100 euros per person

The slow coiling method used by Gunilla Maria Åkesson serves as her daily meditation. In this experience Gunilla will first give a masterclass, showing participants how she makes her thin vessels, which are hand-built in red stoneware containing paper fibre by coiling the wall and modelling it to make it thin and even. She builds just 5cms each day in order to maintain the thin feeling of the vessel walls. The vessels are usually glazed several times between each firing at 1,200°C. Following the masterclass participants will have the chance to try out this method and build their own vessels in the same way. Participants may bring their own tools if they wish. Gunilla also gives workshops and talks in other locations, in which case, travel and accommodation are extra. This workshop is on request.
