A straw sculpture that brings good fortune

1 hour Max 15 people4 euros per person

Himmeli means “Heavenly gardens” in Lithuanian. It is a geometric mobile ornament made from straw strung on a thread that is hung above the wedding table or the baby’s cradle. The tradition of straw “gardens” in Lithuania is considered a cultural value of National Intangible Heritage. Such ornaments were made in preparation for Christmas and Easter to decorate the house and create a festive atmosphere. “Gardens” made from rye or wheat straw can also have angels or birds inside them. It was believed that “Heavenly gardens” brought good fortune, harmony and wealth to the house and protected it from evil. At Juškos Museum, visitors will hear about the significance and importance of these traditional ornaments in the life of ancient Lithuanians and even learn how to tie together the core elements of a “Heavenly garden.”
