Learn the Japanese raku technique

The Japanese technique of firing ceramics called raku is a very popular technique around the world with impressive results through a distinct, short process of firing. This is the only technique where all the stages of a ceramic object are visible to the eyes of the ceramicist. The ceramics are fired in wood stoves or gas furnaces and when the temperature reaches the desired point, the objects come out of the furnace incandescent with metal tweezers. Then, due to the sudden change of temperature the glaze cracks and black smoke enters creating a unique result. The course includes a theoretical introduction to glazing, creation of a glaze, glazing of three objects and firing of the ceramics.
