During a group tour of the palace, museum and park you will learn about the foundation of the estate back in the 18th century by Field Marshall Boris Sheremetev, one of Peter the Great’s allies, and his son, Russian senator Peter Sheremetev. Peter founded the stunning art collection which is now on display at the palace, featuring tapestry, glasswork, paintings, carved furniture, porcelain and bronze. The Ceramics Museum at the Large Stone Gallery features around 40,000 objects, including antiques from Greece, Italy, Asia and Russia. It has a comprehensive selection of work by Russian porcelain manufacturers including Vinogradov, Gardner, Popov, Safronov and Gzhel, as well as porcelain masterpieces by Wassily Kandinsky, Boris Kustodiev and others. The museum also gives insight into the experimental Ceramics Laboratory that it ran from 1928-1930. Foreign language tours are available.
