This workshop allows participants to make a classic wallet or tote bag according to the pattern proposed by Jakub Wilczewski. Learn the typical techniques such as saddle stitching, skiving, edge creasing, edge burnishing, or painting. Firstly the leather types are revealed according to their tanning processes such as vegetable tanned or chrome tanned, and finishes which could be waxed, patent, or embossed. The work is done with traditional tools: skiving knife, pricking irons, stitching chisels, diamond awl. Jakub explains his own methods of pattern preparation, the handmade ones with paper and the digital ones.

The level is adapted to the participants’ skills. This experience allows you to acquire advanced knowledge of leather types: cowhide, goatskin, sheepskin, crocodile, according to their application for different products and their properties. The participants will learn how to design their own pattern using CAD software. Details about the quality of finishing techniques will be revealed. As an extra option it’s possible to learn how to photograph products in order to best present the details which illustrate the charm of traditional craftsmanship.
