Explore this hidden Russian treasure

1.5 hours Max 10 peopleFrom 700 rubles per person

The sumptuous building of the School of Art and Design, designed by its first rector Maximilian Messmacher and inaugurated in 1876, is one of St. Petersburg’s hidden treasures. During this tour you will likely spot the younger generation of artists sketching or painting on the stairs of the gallery or in its halls. On display is handmade furniture, ceramics, porcelain, glasswork, textiles, embroidery and lace. You will also see a selection of textile dolls dressed in folk costumes of pre-revolutionary Russian provinces, and a collection of metalwork, including locks, keys and craft tools from Russia and Europe, the oldest of which date back to the Middle Ages. Because the museum was originally created for students, you can only visit as part of a guided tour, which can be arranged in advance. Tours in Russian cost 700 rubles per person; tours in English cost 4,000 rubles for up to 4 visitors, 6,000 rubles for 5 to 7 visitors and 8,000 rubles for 8 to 10 visitors
