This three-dimensional paper relief is made of 600 individual pieces of paper, folded and glued to create a composition that works by reflecting light, with the overall effect dependent on the viewer’s perspective. The central concept of Anna’s work is the interplay between light and shade, contrast, and the repetitive patterns created by the folds and hollows in the work.

To create her paper reliefs, Anna uses a mix of techniques. Her work starts in three-dimensional computer software, where she uses various architectural and creative coding techniques to draw shapes and find repeating patterns. Anna then translates the 3D models to 2D, so they can be cut from a flat sheet of paper using a laser cutter. Once individual shapes are cut, the artist then folds and glues them manually. This part of the process is very repetitive as the relief consists of almost 600 individual solids. After hours of folding and glueing, when all the shapes are ready, the whole panel can finally be assembled, creating a dramatic composition full of movement.
