The inspiration behind Lali's artwork, the female Georgian monarch known as King Tamar of Georgia, is a very intriguing and rare phenomenon. Her position as the first woman to rule Georgia in her own right was emphasised by the title "king". The great woman was given a title that was usually reserved for men. Lali notes that the only other female ruler in history to be addressed with a male title was the Pharaoh of Egypt, Hatshepsut.
