Serbian ceramicist Svetlana Matuša, known as Lana to her friends, has been living and working in Iceland since 1999, where she finds her inspiration amid the island's mysterious landscape. Lana first studied chemical engineering, before going on to study sculpture ceramics at the University of Applied Arts and Design in Belgrade. Her skills as a scientist and an artist have given her a unique understanding of materials, which enables her to create sensitive responses to the colours, textures and structures that surround her. Lana's knowledge of chemistry and engineering helps her to experiment with materials, such as porcelain, various clays and lava powder. Using her diverse knowledge, Lana has also created her own distinctive glazes. Her recognisable artworks have been exhibited in major exhibitions in Serbia and around the world.
