Max Brosi

German-born woodturner Max Brosi moved to the north-west of Ireland at the age of two, where he soon began working with wood at his grandfather’s workbench. After gaining a degree in furniture design, Max explored different avenues of working with wood, including hollow wooden surfboard construction and boatbuilding before discovering woodturning.

His early work focused on the distortion of green wood during the drying process, which quickly earned him a reputation as a fresh and innovative thinker in the field of woodturning. Since 2017 Max has shifted his focus to exploring the vessel form; his most recent work came about from considering how people with visual impairments could experience his work. The beach pebble became the starting point for developing a line of work focusing on pure flowing form and tactile texture. The subtly carved edges of his pieces represent the waves on the surface of the ocean in north-west Ireland, where Max lives.
