Josef Marek

In his work, Josef Marek uses the natural properties of glass, such as its ability to create a sense of the depth of space and change reality through optics or by revealing its internal form. Josef's practical sculptural training at the Academy of Applied Arts and Architecture in Prague gives him an advantage in approaching this extremely difficult medium from many directions. Sometimes, in his simple geometric forms - maybe influenced by his long stay in Japan - Josef creates unreal spaces with an extraordinary mysterious feeling, or perhaps the presence of a possible higher perception of the surrounding reality. Often his artistic intentions require combining glass with other materials, such as basalt or granite, but his approach always remains the same: simplicity, clarity and purity - as a counterweight to our mostly complicated world.
