The sculpture of Guan Yin, a goddess of mercy and compassion, is surrounded by a cloud of 18th-century Chinese porcelain plates. The figure of Guan Yin is a reoccurring thread throughout Bouke de Vries’s work. Bouke shows compassion towards discarded broken ceramics and instils them with new value, with the image of the goddess of compassion standing at the centre of this.
