BlattChaya is a family-run artisanal firm that specialises in the making of handmade traditional coloured cement tiles. Established in 1881, the business was run by three successive generations before closing down in the 1940s. Some 60 years later, the discovery of a small box led to memories of the past existence of the business and its subsequent revival by descendant Edgard Chaya. Following a successful career in finance, Edgard was all set to enjoy retirement, but instead found himself picking up from where his grandfather left off. Edgard began researching the process and techniques of this long-forgotten art form, using traditional materials, natural colours and handcraft techniques to begin tile production once again. BlattChaya tiles are sought-after around the world.
