Arthur
Arthur is created entirely by hand in the carpentry atelier of Bottega Ghianda. Using the techniques of fine‑woodworking known as ebanisteria, the craftsman works on a single piece of solid ash wood, sanding it for hours, sometimes days, to create the shape of the seat and the three sabre-like legs. Once formed, the object is treated with water, to maintain the natural colour and make it longer lasting over time. To complete the stool, metal inserts are added to the top section of the legs.

The Arthur stool, with its three sabre-like legs, is a relic that comes back to life through memory. Arthur is a tribute to the Austrian architect Adolf Loos, known for his hostility to all forms of ornamentation, but its inspiration source harks back to earlier times. Arthur's measured aesthetics are reminiscent of a stool from the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, whose resurfacing from the oblivion of darkness was prompted by the 19th-century interest in Egyptology. Arthur's regal aura condenses the sense of past eras and projects them into the present, but also into the future.
