This Jesmonite cast in a Portland limestone colour is a limited edition of 20 casts. The original work was handcarved in Welsh slate in April 2020, during the first Covid lockdown. Zoe Wilson is fortunate to have her workshop at home which allowed her to continue carving. Working on this design gave her such a huge feeling of purpose and peace.

Pyramids Cast is taken from an original carving in slate, which will always hold significant value to Zoe Wilson. It marked a big transition in her life and in her creative practice. Zoe started carving the original five months after returning from living in South East Asia for two years when her son was just three months old. She hadn’t carved anything for six months, but her creative brain had still been ticking away, carving this piece a hundred times in her head.

This piece was a commission and is handcarved in Welsh slate. The client approached Zoe Wilson with an initial idea and a sample pattern they had seen. They worked together to develop it into a larger more complex design. She loved the sample pattern they suggested and very quickly ideas started flowing of how she could expand it and make it into a really striking design.

Saorsa is smaller than most of Zoe Wilson’s other carvings. She does not often carve a ‘test’ piece, but this idea was so complex that she couldn’t quite think how it was going to translate into three-dimensions. This piece, carved from Portland limestone is called Saorsa, which is the Gaelic word for freedom. Zoe found the freedom to take more risks as the piece took a lot less time to create.

Zoe Wilson carved Sequins whilst living in South East Asia. She was developing a fascination with pattern and tessellating shapes. This piece was inspired by her friend’s little girl's t-shirt, which had a sequin star on it. Zoe loved the way the sequins all moved together and wanted to capture this movement in a carving.
