Jewellery with meaning

  • • Victoria uses both traditional and modern jewellery techniques
  • • She is a certified gemmologist
  • • Her creations have a minimalist, geometric style

After studying interdisciplinary art and design at Huddersfield University in the UK, Victoria Tonu continued her studies at Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, Italy. In 2013 she founded her jewellery brand, Vika Tonu, which encompasses a unique vision focusing on meaning, symbols and pure forms. In an attempt to capture the essence of things, her style follows the concept of simplification in art, reflected in her minimalist creations. Her inspiration comes from alchemy and anthroposophy, mythology, personal development in terms of spiritual growth and realisation, mysticism, the power of letters and sounds. She became a certified gemmologist in 2018, after graduating from the Romanian Gemmological Centre in Timisoara, Romania.

The Physical Body bracelet

The Physical Body is a bracelet in the shape of a human thorax, made from 24k gold plated brass with red silk ribbons. The exact shape of the bracelet originated in a collage created by Vika Tonu. The original thorax shape from the paper collage was scanned, enlarged to the dimensions of a wearable piece, and then laser engraved. The piece was subsequently hand sawed, bent into a bracelet shape and gold plated.

Eta and Upsilon double rings

Eta and Upsilon are two minimalist double rings, part of Vika Tonu’s Dimiourgia collection. The Eta ring is handmade from silver and has a square element on top made of brass. The Upsilon ring is also handmade from a brass sheet with an attached cabochon of black lava. Both rings are 'double finger' rings, meaning they are to be worn on two fingers. The unusual shapes are inspired by the corresponding symbol that they represent: the letters eta and upsilon from the ancient Greek alphabet.
