Srabani Ghosh lost her mother at the age of eight. She was a ceramicist. When later in her life Srabani looked for a way to channel her creative energy, she chose to follow her mother’s footsteps. She quickly realised the power of ceramics as a medium that was able to combine two dimensional drawing with sculpture. Quitting her previous career in consulting, she ended up graduating in Ceramic Design in 2016 at Central Saint Martins School in London with a first class honours. As an artist with roots in India, the surface patterns of her works carry the unmistakable and extravagant hallmarks of her native country. The stories and forms in her ceramics are strongly influenced by the last 25 years she has spent working and living in Europe.

The ceramic sculpture resembles the contours of a body. Gloss glaze over deep blue and cream, the surface is richly decorated with a filigree of fine patterns. Near the base is a small motif of a bird. It is hand coiled ceramic with traditional slip inlay and sgraffito.

The ceramic sculpture alternating between flowing skirts and the profile of a body. Glossy glaze over deep blue and cream, it is richly patterned. It carries heavier marks resembling fetters that seem to bind her. It is hand coiled with traditional slip inlay and sgraffito.

Late in the Evening - Umrao
The sculpture resembles a whirling skirt. A gloss glaze over deep green and cream. In amongst the rich patterns is the abstract composition of a dancing figure that wraps around the form. Hand coiled ceramic with traditional slip inlay and sgraffito.
