To celebrate the grand opening of his Milan store, Green Fingers Market Milano, Satoshi created this bespoke installation titled “In My Head”. It is composed of fresh cut flowers and foliage, gushing out of a window and filling up the room. The effect is simply amazing.

Plants in fashion

Tokyo-born Satoshi Kawamoto describes himself as a self-taught plant artist. For the last 20 years, mixing floristry, design and fashion, he has been creating extraordinary interiors by using plants as decorative objects. He collaborates with international brands and recently opened his flagship Green Fingers Market shop in Milan and New York. When asked about one of the most memorable moments in his career, he recalls a very simple episode during Milan Salone del Mobile in 2019, "I was holding an exhibition there, called 'Life and Death'. A woman came in three times, first on her own, then with her two daughters. It was touching to witness the amazement on the mother’s face and then, shortly after, the identical reaction from both girls." He should be used to these emotive responses though, as his creations are so striking that it’s impossible to be unmoved.

Dried Flower Confetti
In collaboration with the talented chefs at Tenoha restaurant in Milan, Satoshi hand-selected a sizeable collection of natural dried materials for this “Dried Flower Confetti”. The artwork served as table centerpieces alongside Tenoha's authentic Japanese food.

Contemporary flowers for exhibition
Neither a traditional ikebana nor a standard Western arrangement, this piece is labelled “contemporary flowers” and is part of Satoshi’s exploration of new floristry paths. It’s a very simple yet beautifully constructed arrangement, made of tillandsia usneoides (or Spanish moss) in an antique woven iron basket. Satoshi created it for the photographic book “Nenge”, that he co-authored with Shinichiro Ogata.

Bespoke Ikebana arrangements
A bespoke ikebana arrangement of live moss, flowers and foliage in a glass vase. Satoshi made it during a live event in one of Prada’s stores around Europe, where he focused on creating ikebana specifically tailored for each client of the luxury brand.

In this arrangement a white leather bag is filled with plants. This artwork was born out of a creative collaboration between Mr Kawamoto and the brand Valextra, whose flagship store in Milan the artist restyled with lush and vibrant greens, mixing plant materials and beautifully crafted handbags.
