High Brooch was made as a follow-up to an earlier series, called We Are Family. Réka Lőrincz combines antique jewellery with materials that are, or are considered, traditional in the field of jewellery-making. The face is an oval jasper stone, the mouth is a light sapphire, the large round eyes and the tiny earrings are white akoya and freshwater pearls. The back of the brooch is made of silver.

Building bridges between generations

Having finished her studies in Product Design at the Hungarian University of Applied Arts (MOME), Réka Lőrincz enrolled for Mental Health and Organization Development at Semmelweis University. The decision was based on her conviction that jewellery connects the body, soul and spirit. In the process of examining how her different emotional states translate into physical realities, she is more interested in the concept, rather than in what shape the objects take. When designing jewellery, objects and installations, she seeks to experience a sense of freedom. She is represented by prestigious galleries in Stockholm, Seoul, Munich and New York, and has shown her work in numerous group and solo exhibitions worldwide. She received the Lajos Kozma Applied Arts Scholarship in 2006 and 2008.

Lady's Tape Brooch
Lady’s Tape Brooch was inspired by a charming trait found in many people, often referred to as "never enough." It is an endless hoarding appetite that is symbolised by two strings of pearls and an antique necklace coiled up as a roll of tape. There is no hierarchy between the materials used; the transparent scotch tape dispenser used in everyday life is as important a part of the object as the classic strings of pearls or the necklace.

Pssss Brooch
Réka Lőrincz transformed a 20th-century black perfume pump, decorated with white drop pattern, into a brooch. She captured the moment of spritzing by using tiny classic white pearls. We can't grow tired of using and wearing high value pearls, we desire them beyond measure. By wearing the brooch, one "spreads" these treasures not only on one's own body, but also in the surrounding world, making it more valuable.

Sunday Tape Brooch
Sunday Tape Brooch is made of a transparent Scotch tape dispenser with an old studded "tape," originally used as a bracelet. As it is typical to Réka Lőrincz works, she combined the raw materials used in traditional jewellery-design with ordinary objects. The rolled up shiny bracelet acts as a remedy to fix damaged things.

Gold Trap Brooch
This brooch is designed like a mousetrap. Its base material is gilded copper, to which the artist soldered a fine gold rectangle resembling an investment gold bar. Is it the gold that is trapped here, or have we fallen into the trap of the glitter and splendour of gold? Which will prove stronger: the fixing of the fine gold piece or our longing for the treasure?
