This group of candleholders is designed and made by Per Brandstedt out of Swedish oak to be used in the church. It consists of six candleholders for a single large candle and a large candleholder that can accommodate one large and 39 small candles. Each candleholder has a rectangular base, a thin tapering midsection pillar and an oval shaped crest in which cylindrical stainless steel holders are mounted.

An explorer of wood

When Per Brandstedt decided to discontinue his degree in physics, move to the Swedish countryside and work for a carpenter specialised in renovating traditional wood buildings, he discovered his calling. “What fascinated me was that everything was done 200 years ago by hand with simple tools." After a 1-year formal education and a few years working in a joinery, he enrolled in a 3-year diploma course at Capellagården in Öland, Sweden, where he focused on traditional Swedish woodwork like relief and marquetry. Per opened his first workshop immediately after graduating in 1983, an enterprise that has not been easy as a husband and father of three. “I have never made a lot of money with my work, but I have been fortunate to travel around the whole world.”

Bench I Sing the Body Electric 5
This Per Brandstedt seat, deep black in colour, is organically round in shape and mounted on four stainless steel legs. The main body is sculpted from a block of fresh solid Swedish oak. The piece was set to dry and during this process the wood cracked and the shape slightly altered. The surface is scorched, brushed and treated with a finishing oil, enhancing the wood grain and tactility.

Vessel Partridge
The vessel looks as if a thick rectangular slab of wood has been bent, which is not possible, considering the thickness of the material. Instead, the form was sculpted from a block of fresh solid Swedish oak by Per Brandstedt. During the drying process the wood cracked and the shape slightly altered. The surface is scorched, brushed and treated with a finishing oil, enhancing wood grain and tactility.

Vase Contradicition
A trio of vases made of solid Swedish oak blocks with inserted glass tubes sculpted by Per Brandstedt. During the drying process the shape is distorted and cracked. After drying, holes are bored and the top shaped with a “lip” surrounding the glass containers. The surfaces are scorched, brushed and oil finish is applied, giving the objects a deep black colour and textured, tactile surfaces.

Jewellery cabinet Lillian
Per Brandstedt made this small cabinet on a high stand designed for storage and displaying jewellery. The material is solid American walnut with an oil finish. It is designed with a set of eight drawers placed above each other in the centre of the cabinet. A door opens on each side revealing space for storage and displaying necklaces.
