The sublime beauty of imperfection

Always fascinated by manual labour, Myriam Aït Amar knew that this kind of profession would never give her any economic security. "I belong to that generation for which study was the only means to guarantee a future" she says. "I therefore always studied hard, becoming a teacher at school. But I was not satisfied with it. I was fascinated by the furnishings of friends' homes from an early age, I felt that something led me to that world of precarious manual art. So, I enrolled in art school." It was the turning point of her life. She studied in Cordoba, Spain, where she learned to listen to herself. And trust herself. From there her work was born: from the bottom of her heart. “Every piece I make is a piece of me.”

Moon Noir bowl
These black porcelain bowls are made using the casting technique. The porcelain is first dyed using large amounts of oxides. It features a matt exterior, textured with textile and a matt enamelled transparent interior embellished with gold motifs. It is inspired by the moon and its strong influence on earth.

These white porcelain cups were made by hand using the pouring technique. It features a matt exterior, textured with lace and a glossy transparent enamelled interior embellished with gold motifs. Myriam loves imperfection, the essence of the object that she enhances and embellishes with gold.

Envolée bowl
This large smooth white porcelain bowl is enamelled inside and the outside has been decorated with a gold and cobalt blend pattern. It was handmade using the casting technique. The reference to embroidery and textiles is a central motif in Myriam’s art. Her love of fabrics and designs is central to her history.

Lace goblet
This white porcelain cup was made by hand using the pouring technique. It features a matt exterior, textured with lace and a glossy transparent enamelled interior enhanced with gold motifs. Gilding in Myriam’s art is often used to make an imperfection, like a dripping drop, a motif of interest and appeal. It also ensures that each object is truly a unique piece.
