If you wander off in the Gallura region of Sardinia, you could find the picturesque landscape of the granite mountains around Aggius. The small town is the capital of the local textile tradition, and Prof. Cannas’s atelier is located here. The result of a long legacy made by women, the workshop was founded as a collective in 1997, and changed into a co-partnership in 2005 by ten founding members. The production includes tapestries and carpets, other textile furnishing accessories and traditional artefacts, such as saddlebags.

The handmade products are an excellent testimony of the traditional weaving, enriched by new interpretations of the classic motifs. The atelier carries on the carpet tradition of Aggius, recognisable by its geometrical shapes and its bright colours inspired by nature. Exactly like their ancestors used to do, they produce carpets using sheep’s wool, which is then dyed with natural colours obtained from local plants flowers, roots and leaves.
