Initially founded in 1924 in Zagreb, Knjigovežnica 1924 (Bookbindery 1924) is now run by Mrs. Vesna Hrkač. Vesna learned the craft of bookbinding from her grandfather and mother which makes her the third generation of prominent bookbinders to continue the family tradition at the same address. Vesna is specialized in goldsmith printing, and has devoted herself in the past years to repairing and restorating antique books, which gave the whole workshop a new artistic aspect. She works together with two other bookbinders in a basement space owned by the Croatian state in the centre of Zagreb.

The bookbinders was originally founded by her grandfather Pavao Danilović, who studied the bookbinding craft in Padua, Italy. After the end of the First World War, he began his professional career in Vienna. In 1924, he founded the workshop in Zagreb. Bookbindery 1924 is unique for the finesse and craft skill that can be recognized in the artwork itself. The atelier uses two Josef Anger & Söhne machines, a cutting knife and gold press manufactured at the end of the 19th century, and handmade type letters and clichés.
