Woven into her family history

  • • Traditional weaving techniques run in Ivančica's family
  • • She still works on her mother's loom
  • • For her, tradition and creativity go hand in hand

The year 1937 is an important one in the history of weaving within Ivančica Turković's family. That year is engraved on a wooden loom that Ivančica inherited from her mother, Marica Bušić, who received the loom that year, when she was just 13. At the time, Marica needed shoes for the winter, which was a big expense for a peasant family. But instead of getting shoes, Marica asked her parents to make a loom for her, thus securing a means by which she could make many more useful and necessary items in the future, a way to equip herself, her family and decorate her house. Her daughter Ivančica works on that very same loom to this day.

Small tablecloth

This series of small tablecloths can be used decoratively or to protect a larger tablecloth beneath. Ivančica Turković uses thread in earthy colours and a horizontal geometric pattern of square shapes in similar tones. The inspiration for these pieces comes from the traditional Podravina tablecloth. A technique of weaving is used where small boards are passed between the base threads, which determines the pattern.

Ivančica Turković has created a direct replica of a traditional Podravina tablecloth with pure linen thread and red or blue horizontal geometric patterns. Scarf / Shawl

Ivančica Turković’s new product line is inspired by traditional ethnological patterns inherent to Podravina weaving. The oblong dimensions allow this piece to be used as a scarf-like wrap. Ivančica sometimes also uses wool threads for extra warmth.

Small carpet / rug

This small rug can also be used as a sofa throw due to its woollen composition. Most of the wool is reused from old discarded jumpers. Ivančica Turković drew her inspiration for these handcrafted rugs from folk rug weaving where old cotton garments were used to create new items and make maximum use of available materials.
