A thoughtful design of jewellery

  • • Ingrid started as a textile designer
  • • Jewellery making came through her interest in goldsmithing
  • • She uses the Korean “Keum-boo” technique

Living and creating jewellery on the shores of Lake Léman, Ingrid Schmidt actually started her work life in another country with another craft. After studying textile design in Germany, her native land, she came to Geneva and discovered goldsmithing through the important presence of Haute Joaillerie in the city. Ever since then, she has been fascinated by the use of goldsmithing and the creation of jewellery. Mixing techniques from different cultures, using the Keum-boo technique from Korea, and different inspirations from her days as a textile designer, Ingrid brings an eclectic vision to the art of jewellery making. A thoughtful design combined with various inspirations and a masterful hand is what gives Ingrid’s pieces a unique twist.

Skydream

This pendant consists of a cloud shape broken in half: one side pink, the other black, from which a silver drop emerges. It reflects hope in these times of social unrest, climate catastrophe and pandemic. Ingrid Schmidt wanted to remind people that we should know that in adversity there is also the seed of renewal. The drop of water, a symbol of life, opens our eyes to a new beginning.

Tales from the Desert

On this pair of hexagonal earrings, we can see an oval made of silver complemented by a red elongated shape. Ingrid Schmidt was inspired by a trip to the Inscription Canyon, Arizona, where you can find the first drawings of the indigenous people. These petroglyphs were created more than 8,000 years ago and bear witness to the creative power of our ancestors. The technique used is the keum-boo, an ancient fusion technique from Korea.

Goutte

This elegant pair of drop-shaped earrings with a 24-karat gold texture was made as a piece of jewellery not only beautiful to look at, but also tempting to touch. Ingrid Schmidt originally studied textile design, so the aspect of textile textures and motifs to immortalise on the silver sheet with precious gold wire are always in her mind. This piece is made using the keum-boo technique, an ancient fusion technique from Korea.

Carré de Padua

These stud earrings are made of two silver elements joined together, on the one hand the fascinating square as a motif and on the other the dynamic oval. In this design, Ingrid Schmidt pays tribute to the goldsmith tradition in Padua, Italy, where many master goldsmiths keep the craft alive and pass it on.
