This piece, a hand thrown and hand built wall art relief, tells the story of perfection moulded by our environment. “At first we are all intact. Then our living environment changes us.” Heidi Aulikki Puumalainen uses age-old craft techniques to multiply forms and create three-dimensional wall art pieces, some of which are in the Finnish State Art Commission Collection.

These hand thrown stoneware cups and plates were specially made for the Helsinki Design Museum Shop. The collection, hand painted with coloured slip, was created to go with the 2020 summer exhibition colour scheme. The cups and plates are available in various colours and sizes. Heidi Aulikki’s tableware collection comprises functional ceramic pieces in exquisite designs, with the craft itself visible in the final product.

This hand thrown stoneware serving dish is part of a larger series of functional tableware, handmade in the heart of Helsinki. There is one overarching and always present rule throughout Heidi Aulikki’s pieces: there must be finger marks or other elements that indicate the piece was handmade. “It is important that the aspect of craft is visible in the final product.”

This collection of stoneware boxes and a plate was inspired by the archipelago nature of the rural island of Kökar. The containers are both functional and decorative. As with all of Heidi Aulikki’s products, she has purposefully left fingerprints or other indications of the handmade nature of the pieces.

Thought boxes were designed to store special items and can also be used in the kitchen to store items such as sugar. The design for the series was inspired by the archipelago nature of the rural island of Kökar, where Heidi Aulikki lived for several periods of her life on an artist residency programme. The decorative 'swirls' on the top of the container represent the daydreams of a potter at the wheel.
