An explosion of colour

  • • Federico is inspired by geometry and constructivism
  • • He has collaborated with Capas Seseña
  • • He became interested in silk screen printing in India

Since opening his Madrid workshop in 2015, Federico Antelo has been exploring the use of fabric for interior design and fashion. His research aims to find different aesthetic options, from an artistic and experimental perspective, creating a dialogue between art and design. Cotton and linen - the natural fabrics he employs - are the canvas on which Federico, also a talented painter, expresses his creativity through the combination of colours and shapes. Patterns come to life while the silk screen printing process takes place, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces of textile art. The use of colour gives Federico a sense of freedom, he is never afraid to mix and create very personal hues.

Triangle

This hand printed fabric wall panel is the first design that Federico Antelo created. It is a mix of two geometrical shapes that interact in a triangle. The idea for this piece was to play with the shapes and colours, creating rhythms through colour placement. Each colour and shape has been printed one at a time, using ecofriendly textile inks on locally produced cotton fabric.

Labyrinth

This handmade wall panel designed by Federico Antelo was made using the screen printing technique. We can see two different techniques, one is the “labyrinth”, and the other one is focused on the bright propellers that are all around. Each colour and shape has been printed one at a time, using eco-friendly textile inks on locally produced cotton fabric.

Deco

The goal of this design is to create the illusion of volume, which can be achieved by the selection of the right colours. There are some scattered shapes, quite common in Federico Antelo’s work, in deep golden ink that enhance the three-dimensional sensation. Each colour and form has been printed one at a time, using eco-friendly textile inks on locally produced cotton fabric.

Vertical Triangle

This hand printed piece shows one of the most distinctive aspects of Federico Antelo’s work, the idea of a geometric structure with some loose shapes randomly placed on top of it. These shapes, which are not related to the pattern below, show how this is a unique piece made by hand. Each colour and form has been printed one at a time, using eco-friendly textile inks on locally produced cotton fabric.

Vitral

VITRAL is a work of textile art. It consists of a piece of cotton fabric 1.6 metres wide by 25 metres long, printed entirely by hand combining 6 different geometric units, mostly 24 by 24 centimetres. It is an installation created with the purpose of underlining the artistic character of the textile, and therefore detached from any kind of function, being the exclusive object of the aesthetic event.
