Stone charmer

  • • Denis specialises in spheres
  • • Sculpture is his means of serving other projects
  • • He collects all his stones in the mountains

At the age of eight, Denis Augé was already making pyramids of stones, juxtaposing them in balance, "I thought it was very unfair that they were condemned to remain on the ground, that no one would look at them.” Like a promise to his inner child, Denis continues today to lift stones and create harmonious sculptures. It is an epic journey that has led him to where he is now. After first specialising in robotics and machine design, he left for the Caribbean where he spent nine years on a sailing boat, gaining a new perspective on the world but also another idea of beauty. Later on, Denis instinctively turned to stone, slowly starting to build his spheres. From classical stone masonry, he innovated with new techniques, like his solid cement. His sculptures soon reached a new dimension.

Evolution

This stone sculpture presents a disc of grey shale worked with iron oxides, which gives a rusty colour. The puzzle pieces assembled by Denis Augé’s patented cement represent the key to the evolution of humanity, the inverted triangle being a symbol of femininity. This sculpture tells us that the evolution of humanity will only come through more femininity in our system.

Sphere of pebbles from Argent Double

This stone sculpture features a sphere of pebbles collected from the Argent Double river, in the north of Carcassonne, in the Black Mountains. Coming in different sizes, these spheres have a magical side because they have no structure; the stones are in contact and are assembled by Denis Augé’s patented cement as well as a steel shaft inserted in the stone, which gives them great resistance. You can climb or sit on them.

Ring of stones

This sculpture features a ring of stones. Denis Augé’s rings of stones help to guide the eye over a landscape or a viewpoint. They can also be seen as doors to the imagination. Once again, the stone is freed from gravity and the sculpture offers us another vision of the stone.
