The Tingieterij or Pewter Company was cast from humble beginnings in 1979. Ties van Zon set up the business in his garage, having been made redundant from his previous job as a model maker. Determined to build up what was then a small tin foundry into a fully-fledged operational business, he did so with such success that he eventually had to move to larger premises. In 1993, The Pewter Company was awarded the Kleverings prize for the best start-up. Ties passed away in 2008, and today the foundry is run by his nephews Martijn and Jurgen.

The Pewter Company produces customised products, as well as stocking a permanent collection of pewter objects – accessible to everyone. One major claim to fame is that the foundry has been producing the championship trophy for Dutch premier league football since 1985. As well as casting objects in pewter, it seems the foundry is also helping to cast pewter up in the world: pewter is enjoying a comeback, perhaps due to their objects being presented with a high-gloss silver sheen, far removed from the dull black colour of the past.
