The magic of Bosnian wool

  • • Alisa learned the craft from her mother
  • • Together they create rugs, scarves and toys
  • • All of their products are entirely handmade

Although weaving was part of her family heritage, Alisa Mujkanović took up the craft seven years ago after leaving another career. Her mother, Amna, suggested that she could teach her a few techniques, just to have a hobby while she was looking for another job. That’s how her mother became her teacher and gave her an idea for a new career path. Their atelier Bogda (piece) was born. A piece of her soul and her mother's teachings and creativity are captured in every rug, scarf and toy that Alisa makes. All the pieces of Bogda Rukotvorina are made of Bosnian sheep's wool. The wool is washed, combed and dyed completely by hand and without the use of chemicals.

Funky rug

The carpet is round in shape, assembled from many knitted spirals of different colours. The wool, which is hand-dyed and spun, is knitted in the form of a holster. Alisa and Amna rolled up each filled case and sewed them separately into a round shape, and then fastened them to the carpet.

Sheep rug

Alisa and Amna knitted woollen holsters, threaded with silicone cedar, and then sewed them into a spiral shape. The spirals of different sizes were then joined to each other in an elliptical shape. They crocheted the head, ears and legs and made the eyes of the sheep using the felting technique.

Alma and Amna filled knitted pillows with combed wool, then assembled them together. They covered the hard sponge cube with joined knitted cubes of different colours and attached it to a wooden stand with wooden legs.
