This unique series of organic GOTS certified cotton muslins, hand-dyed with Acacia Catechu, are exclusively developed for the cosmetic brand Rowse. Taller Silvestre wants to honour earth colours through these pieces. All the processes needed to create the muslins were developed in Taller Silvestre’s workshop: scouring, mordanting, colour extraction and dye Bath. As Rowse is a plant-based company, Taller Silvestre decided to work exclusively with plants during the whole process.

This series of socks are woven from hand-dyed organic wool. Wool is a stunning material to work with when using botanical dyes. Colour lives on wool and both botanical colours and wool work together extremely well. Special attention needs to be paid during all the process as wool is very sensitive to heat and sudden differences of temperature. Taller Silvestre works with cold dye methods to avoid damaging the fibres.

These cotton gauzes were dyed with onions skins and are part of a larger study of colours obtained with onion skins. Test of saturation, dyed material versus fabric weight, temperature and bath pH are very interesting and allow Taller Silvestre to get different hues from a single bath dye. This type of process is also in line with Taller Silvestre’s journey, to be as sustainable as possible and exhaust the colour bath till the very last drop.

This silk bourette towel is hand-dyed using the tie-dye technique. A gradient has been created from beige to pale rose hues. The silk used, bourette silk, also known as silk noil, is made of what’s left after making spun silk. It is not shiny and a bit rougher than silk, it is a more humble material that Taller Silvestre love to work with. The tie-dye method is a very manual process: you have to be very present and attentive. The saturation of the colour is optically controlled in order to avoid ugly cuts in the colour transitions.

This Japanese cut bag is made of linen and hand-dyed in shades of pink and corals. Taller Silvestre reinterprets the sunsets of Ibiza using the Rubia tinctorum (also known as the dyer's madder), whose name comes from the reddish colour of the root and which is an endemic species on the island. The unevenness resulting from the natural dyes is full of nuances typical of the artisanal process that form part of the piece and make it unique. It is a limited edition of 21 pieces created for the Spanish brand Zubi.
