Marc often jokes that he was inspired by the tube of toothpaste he stood on one morning. This is a purely imagined shape entangled at a substantial level of difficulty with barely flexible titanium. The object is decorated with a self-developed 'lava technique' in gold.

Contemporary jewellery with a twist

It did not take much convincing for Marc Lange to choose a career in goldsmithing, since he was lured by the techniques, the beautiful materials and the creativity involved, whilst attending the Vocational School of Goldsmiths in Amsterdam. Specialising in the combination of modern materials such as titanium and black zirconium with traditional precious metals, like yellow, red and white gold and platinum. Marc implements techniques that he learned during his training, such as sawing, milling, forging, soldering, drilling, and polishing – but he also uses innovative techniques that bring a contemporary dimension to his production. For Marc, a piece is well made when it is technically and aesthetically correct, but also when it is comfortable to wear.

‘Toothpaste Bracelet’

Mikado bracelet
With this bracelet Marc was inspired by the famous Mikado game. The straight lines are arranged in a playful, illogical way creating a contrasting spectacle. The diamonds sparkle against the subdued matt materials. The piece exudes glamour without being gaudy.

Bauhaus ring
This ring was designed by Marc Lange on the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus movement. The composition of geometric shapes is inspired by architecture that originated from Bauhaus' ideas and principles.

Floating Illusion
Designed for the Dutch Design Contest 2010 with the theme of Enchantment Ring, the piece made it to the final round of the competition. The floating ball was inspired by the Dutch sweet toverbal, a gobstopper made up of coloured layers of sugar. Magnets and invisible thread cause the ball to 'float'.

Sparkling Vortex
Designed for the Dutch Design Contest 2007 with the the theme of Cocktail Party, this piece was awarded first place.The coloured metals symbolize the whirling movement of a cocktail being stirred. The drinkers’ buzz is represented by diamonds that swing on thin threads like fireflies.
