The Crema porcelain cups were handmade using the slip casting process of pouring liquefied white clay into plaster moulds. Monika was inspired by the 'found object' art practice, which refers to the adoption of random found objects as works of art. Each cup is made unique through the use of marbling.

A celebration of colour

It's clear when looking at the works of Monika Skorupska that they were made by an artistic soul. Explosions of colour, connected in a picturesque way, makes you wonder if they are objects for everyday use or decorative items. “I have always felt great about painting and I am a sworn colourist. These ceramics are a result of my affection for colours," she says. "However, my techniques come from traditional pottery.” Her interest in ceramics started at an after-school class. After that, she went to art school, followed by the Academy of Fine Arts. “Despite the fact that I went in this direction educationally, I didn’t think about ceramics that seriously at the time. I considered many ideas and ways of expression in between. This is the one I can wrap my head around,” she laughs.

Crema cups
Part of the De Forma series, this organically shaped porcelain plate was made by slip casting and decorated with gold pigments. Its shape was inspired by observing traces left by hands in soft clay. It was created for the On The Table competition at the 2019 Lódź Design Festival. Each piece of the series is unique due to its production method.

De Forma set
This set was especially made for the 2019 Lódź Design Festival, where Monika took part in the On The Table competition. Made of porcelain and gold pigment, the pieces were produced using slip casting. Due to this method, each piece has a singular pattern. Their organic shapes were inspired by the marks left by hands on fresh clay.

Ragnar vase – Studs series
The Ragnar vase was inspired by Viking helmets. Part of the Studs series, its base is made out of recycled porcelain while the top is covered with 24k gold. Monika made an additional version of this work covered with platinum.

Studs tall cups
This cup is part of the Studs series and is made exclusively of recycled porcelain. Inspired by the punk phenomenon, Monika gave this cup a brutal appearance by adding gold-plated inserts. Each piece of the series is unique due to the production method.
